The “Solidarity Tax” (taxe de solidarité sur les billets d'avion, TSBA also known as Chirac Tax) is an international tax levied by the French Government on the price of airline tickets departing from the French territory. The 2025 budget law has increased the TSBA scale as of 1er March 2025.
The Solidarity Tax imposed by the French Government applies to all air passengers departing from the French territory.
No. Air passengers that only transit at an airport in France are not required to pay for it.
The Solidarity Tax is calculated based on the cabin in which the air passenger flies (Economy/Business) as well as the final destination (by distance).
Based on the distance:
- Short-haul: Europe
- Medium-haul (up to 5,500 km): most GCC countries (e.g. UAE, Qatar, KSA)
- Long-haul (more than 5,500 km): Oman, and Asia countries (e.g. India, Thailand, Philippines)
Prior to the Solidarity Tax increase (up until 28 February 2025), air passengers travelling medium-haul and long-haul destinations paid a Solidarity Tax of € 7.51 in Economy Class and € 63.07 in Business Class.
Current Solidarity Tax amounts (effective 01 March 2025) are:
Destination | Economy Class | Business Class |
Short-Haul (Europe) | €7.40 | €30.00 |
Medium-Haul (up to 5500km) | €15.00 | €80.00 |
Long-Haul (more than 5500km) | €40.00 | €120.00 |
Guests traveling on flights sold by Oman Air must pay it at the Oman air Airport Ticket Counter before they check-in.
At Paris (CDG) or, if the Guests’ return journey starts in France, they can also pay it at the departure airport.
Note: Payment is not available online.
As this is a government-imposed tax increase enforced by the French law, only guests who have completed the payment prior to check-in will be allowed to check in and admitted on board. As stated in clause 4.2 of our Conditions of Carriage, applicable taxes, fees and charges imposed by the government or other authority shall be payable by the Guest.
This depends on the fare purchased by the Guest.
If the Guest holds a refundable ticket, the Guest may cancel it and request a refund (cancellation fees may apply). If the ticket is non-refundable, the Guest will not be allowed to request a refund (except for the taxes subject to applicable fees).
In case the Guest voluntarily chooses an upgrade, the Guest will be required to pay for the Business Class solidarity tax amount.
In case of an unvoluntary upgrade (operational reasons), the Guest will not be required to pay for the amount difference. In the case of an unvoluntary downgrade (operational reasons), the Guest can request a refund for the solidarity tax amount difference.
Only Guests transiting through France are not obliged to pay the Solidarity Tax.
All tickets issued as of the 15th of February 2025 or later have already included the adjusted tax amount.
The Guests holding tickets, issued before the 15th of February 2025, are required to pay the solidarity tax increase.
If the Guest purchased the airline ticket with a partner airline of Oman Air, the Guest needs to reach out to that airline directly for more information as the partner airline is responsible for covering the solidarity tax increase due by their Guests.
