Oman Air Hosts Gulf Flight Safety Association Conference

Oman Air, the national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman, recently hosted the Gulf Flight Safety Association (GFSA) meeting at the Hormuz Grand Hotel, Muscat, in association with Boeing. In attendance were delegates from Boeing, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Oman Transport Safety Bureau (OTSB), the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), Oman Air, Royal Flight Oman, Presidential Flight AD, Royal Air Force, Royal Oman Police, Air Navigation Services of Oman, Petroleum Development Oman, Saudia Aerospace Engineering Industries (SAEI), Minerals Development Oman, Middle East Airlines, Gulf Air, Saudia Airlines, Emirates, Oman Airports, Transom, Flynas, Al Sharqiya Aviation, Unified Aviation, Salam Air, Qatar Airways, Flydubai, Skyart, Aerogulf Services, and MB Group. The first day of the meeting involved workshops, pres entations and discussions on various relevant topics with the participation of working groups from Flight Operations, Flight Data Forum, Ground Operations, Cabin Safety and Helicopters. The workshops allowed participants to present, share and discuss best practice and safety related matters in a confidential environment. Additionally, the y provided an opportunity to network, exchange information and experience s , as well as discuss safety matters specific to the post-COVID era . The second and final day of the meeting included presentations from each subgroup covering their key focus areas , includ ing ‘ Global Aerospace Safety Initiatives ’ by Boeing ; and ‘ Global Data Management Program, Incident Database Analysis, Flight Data Exchange Analysis, Benefits to Ope rat ors and Safety Enhancement Initiatives ’ by IATA. Captain Fahd Cynndy, the GFSA Chairman and CEO of SAEI , presented ‘ MRO Safety and its Relationship with the Aviation Ecosystem ’ . Meanwhile, Captain Waheed Al Subhi, Sen ior Manager - Safety and Emergency R esponse Planning , presented Oman Air ’s fleet, achievements, and safety challenges. An engaging panel discussion was conducted on the challenges of Safety Management System implementation, safety leadership, and change ma nagement. Captain Nasser Al Salmi, Chief Operating Officer at Oman Air , welcomed the delegates and emphasised the importance of such meetings , as well as e xpress ing his appreciation t o the GFSA Chairman, Captain Fahd Cynndy, for the opportunity to hold the prestigious event in Sultanate of Oman. The Gulf Flight Safety Association was originally founded in Oman in 2004 by a group of Gulf-based safety professionals from va rious aviation companies located within the GCC region. The group meets quarterly to discuss safety improvement initiative s, as well as coordinating with international bodies like IATA and ICAO. Captain Waheed Khalfan Al Subhi concluded the event by thanking the attendees, Boeing, and the management of GFSA for ensuring the success of th e meeting. Oman Air Hosts ERIL Event

Oman Air, the national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman, recently hosted the Emirates Regional Immigration Liaison (ERIL) team for a Documents Verification Workshop at the Novotel Muscat Airport. Organised by the airline’s Security department, the event was part of ongoing cooperation between ERIL member states, airlines and key border officials, to prevent travel on fraudulent documents, deter illegal immigration and human trafficking cases, increase early intervention, and identify and respond appropriately. During the workshop, Oman Air’s Document Verification Unit (DVU) was recognised for its achievement in intercepting more than 350 cases of immigration forgery across its network during 2022, which were then transferred to the relevant local authorities. Alauddin Al Ali, Senior Manager - Airline Security at Oman Air, said, “Security is paramount to our operations as an airline and it is key for us to develop strong networks with Liaison Officers, airlines, officials and organisations like ERIL, from a range of countries. Through the frequent exchange of information and tools, we are able to stay updated on trends and issues in security and fraud, prevent and disrupt such cases, and above all, protect the safety of our guests.” ERIL is a multi-agency group composed of representatives from all over the world, who collaborate to combat illegal migration through joint disruption efforts, information sharing, and training. ERIL member states include Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom and United State of America.

Oman Air Helps Boost Inbound Tourism and Investment Efforts

Oman Air applauded the efforts of Oman Golf Association, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, and the Ministry of Commence, Industry and Investment Promotion for a first-of-its-kind golf diplomacy initiative between Oman and Italy, which concluded this week. As the event’s official airline sponsor, the national carrier brought in the qualifying players, who included some of Italy’s most prominent investors, into Oman for the final, held at Al Mouj Golf, Muscat. Oman Air Highlights Digital Transformation Achievements During Annual Workshop

Continuing to drive transformation in the aviation sector, Oman Air’s Digital department recently held its annual workshop. Attended by members of senior leadership and key stakeholders, the workshop reviewed the progress of the company’s ongoing digital transformation strategy and its IT Roadmap for 2023. During 2022, the company accomplished a number of digital initiatives to suppor t its strategic goals . Among them was the restructuring of its Passenger Service System (PSS) to advance its digital retailing capabilities , facilitat ing the initiation of a new i nternet b ooking e ngine and m obile a pp . A N ew Distribution Capability (NDC) so lution was also developed to allow travel agents to deliver rich content and ancillary to customers , while , in order to promote crew and operational efficiency, an elegant Crew Pairing and Fleet Management system with AIMS was established. Further safeguar ding data and cybersecurity, the airline introduced a Privileged Access Management Solution, an enhanced IT Service Continuity initiative and Disaster Recovery Plan. Recently, the company also announced it has joined the International Air Transport Association (IATA) as a founding member of th e pioneering Modern Airline Retailing programme a longside a global consortium of airlines . Leveraging the ‘Offers and Orders’ system , the group intends to spu r technological advancement in the industry and create value for customers by reduc ing the hassles of increasingly complex passenger document checking requirements.
