Oman Air Upgrades Flight Training Centre with B737-8 MAX Simulator

Oman Air, the national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman, has upgraded its commercial flight training capabilities with the installation of a new B737-8 Max simulator. The new device, which was purchased from CAE, a premier provider in flight training and simulation, features the latest technology, allowing the airline to increase its training capacity, while meeting the highest international standards. The simulator is located in the Oman Air Flight Training Centre at the company’s headquarters in Muscat. Captain Nasser Al Salmi, Chief Operating Officer at Oman Air, said, “The new upgrade represents an important milestone in Oman Air’s growth trajectory, underpinning our strategic vision to expand our network and attract the top talent to our workforce. The B737-8 Max is a mainstay of our fleet, and the new simulator will enable us to optimise our operational efficiency and ensure significant cost savings, while providing the highest quality training to our pilots and crew. With this latest advancement, we are confident in our ability to provide unparalleled service to our guests, while maintaining our position as a leading airline in the region.” As the first of its kind such facility in Oman, the Centre has provided pilots and cabin crew with industry-leading qualifications since 2016. By providing in-country training that would otherwise have been conducted elsewhere, it has contributed significantly to the socio-economic objectives of Oman’s 2040 Vision. Meanwhile, Oman Air continues to focus on attracting Omanis, with seven pilots and 63 cabin crew joining the airline in the first quarter of 2023 alone. The airline’s current Omanisation rate stands at 75% in total, which reaches as high as 100% for male cabin crew and 81% for pilots, and it continues to conduct recruitment drives and cadet training programmes with the aim of increasing the number of Omanis in the aviation industry.

Oman Air Welcomes ‘Future Leaders’ with Commercial Graduate Programme Induction Ceremony

Oman Air has officially inaugurated its highly anticipated Future Leaders Commercial Graduate Programme. A special induction ceremony was held for the 11 Omani graduates at the Crowne Plaza Muscat OCEC, under the auspices of His Excellency Sheikh Nasr Amer Al Hosni, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour. During the event, the candidates were addressed by Oman Air’s Chief Executive Officer, Abdulaziz Al Raisi, and members of senior management. Sumaiya Al Siyabi, who recently became the first Arab woman to win the ‘Stars of Science’ programme, was also there to offer a few words of encouragement. After a rigorous selection process which began in July, the candidates; Bashair Al Busaidi, Firas Al Zadjali, Atheer Al Mahrouqi, Ibrahim Al Hinai, Saqar Al Araimi, Mohammed Al Sarmi, Fatima Al Zahra Shabeer, Usama Al Balushi, Fatma Al Marhubi, Maryah Al Harthi, and Muzdalifa Al Husaini, are now gearing up to begin their exciting two-year journey. His Excellency Sheikh Nasr Amer Al Hosni commented, “Oman Air has done a wonderful job designing the Future Leaders Programme, which clearly demonstrates the extent of its interest in empowering more Omani cadres and nurturing them for various leadership and highly specialised positions in the field. Without a doubt, the 11 new graduates will constitute a new building block in the commercial aviation sector. The programme represents an integrated strategy for human resources management and an example of the constructive partnership between the Ministry of Labour and the private sector. The 11 graduates have been carefully selected for their huge potential and talent. Over the next two years we will nurture that talent and feed it with tangible, practical skills that they can take into their professional, and even their personal, lives. The ceremony marks an exciting milestone for them as the first step in building a promising career in aviation.” Over two years, the candidates will spend time at Oman Air’s hub in Muscat and some of its outstations, gaining experience in all the commercial functions of the airline. They will begin by receiving a formal induction and training for two weeks before starting their employmen t . Later , they wil l fly to IATA’s European headquarters in Geneva to undergo world-class formal training and sit an exam for the prestigious IATA Air Transport Management Certificate. The rest of the two -year programme will see them spend three to four months rotating around each commercial function. Throughout this time, they’ll continue to receive training with a dedicated senior leadership mentor and, a t the end, they will come away with internationally recognised qualifications. Oman Air Takes Next Step Towards Sustainability with Plastic-Free Initiative

As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability, Oman Air has replaced the plastic used to wrap blankets and mattresses in its premium cabins with an eco-friendlier paper-based alternative. All duvets and mattresses across the airline’s fleet will now be presented to the guests with slim, branded paper bands, resulting in the reduction of up to 21.6 ton of plastic per year. The initiative is the latest step for Oman Air as it continues to work towards phasing out the use of single-use plastics on board. Captain Nasser bin Ahmed Salmi, Acting Chief Executive Officer at Oman Air, said: “In a concerted effort guided by our in-house experts and bolstered by collaborations with partners and vendors, we have successfully achieved another milestone in our sustainability efforts. This pivotal step aligns seamlessly with our corporate strategy to reduce waste and choose more environmentally friendly products, reflecting our commitment to national sustainability goals.” Oman Air has been making steadfast strides in reducing its on-board plastic consumption over the last few years, including removing the plastic sleeves used to load cutlery and reducing plastic water bottles and cuplets by up to 50% on certain routes. This year, it has also replaced 80% of its in-flight service carts with lightweight alternatives, providing a considerable boost to fuel efficiency. Meanwhile, Oman Air's continual efforts to minimise its environmental impact is demonstrated through a range of initiatives that underscore its dedication to promoting sustainable aviation practices.

Oman Air Signs with Paul Maxence Lounge

Oman Air has signed a service agreement with Paul Maxence Lounge at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport, offering complimentary access for its business class passengers. The agreement coincides with Oman Air’s route resumption between Muscat (MCT) and Paris (CDG), which took effect on 31 October 2021. Business class passengers and Sindbad Gold tier members can access the lounge for free, while economy class passengers can purchase access to the lounge for USD 70.
